Mcilmoyles Mystique (Katy)
August 22, 2016 - September 27,2021
Katy was our second Mastiff, she was the first purebred Mastiff of ours.
I grew up in purebred dog sports, field trials and guns dog stuff, I was never around any show dogs, or actual dog shows. So since I had my first pure bred dog of my own, I was going to try out this show dog stuff. I had no idea about breed standards and little idea how to train a dog properly. So I started to attend conformation classes and tried to figure out what I was doing, after my first dog show I entered I quickly realized Katy was not a great representation of the breed, I knew that our future in dog showing would be limited. I still wanted to trek along for the experience and desire to learn. Katy was very aloof and we quit the sport very quickly, she did not like being touched by strangers and would shy away.
We took up Rally-O where it would be just me and her and she didn't have to worry about being examined. Katy did very well and we got our Rally Novice title our very first three trials. She would have placed if we were just a few seconds faster but she was a mastiff after all.
Katy died traumatically in 2021 during her spay, they had sent her home not quite recovering so well but I was informed the surgery went very well and she was a bit cold and will warm up and come out of the anesthesia soon. Little did I know she was bleeding out internally and died later that night when I took her back to hopefully save her.
Katy adored me and as long as I was with her she was happy, it completely shattered me when she passed and she will always be with me. Katy taught me more than I can ever thank her for. She taught me how to train a dog, and how to succeed with a dog. She was my stepping stone into the dog show world with Mastiffs and she is missed dearly.
