Meet Butters – The Future of Katywinds Mastiffs
Butters is my keeper puppy from the Hitch x Ava litter—my very first bred-by from our foundation litter at Katywinds Mastiffs. From the beginning, she’s embodied everything I hoped to produce: strength, balance, and unmistakable Mastiff type, with a personality full of spark.
At just 9 months old, Butters kicked off her show career, quickly following in her mother Ava’s footsteps. In only two weekends and six shows, she earned her Canadian Championship—just one day shy of her 9-month milestone—with 4 Best of Winners, 1 Winners Bitch, and 1 Reserve Winners Bitch.
Now at 17 months, Butters has already made a lasting mark in the show ring. In the spring of 2025, she earned a beautiful Group 3 placement under respected judge Susan Norris-Jones, competing against some of Canada’s top Working Dogs. At the Mastiff Club of America’s Specialty Week in Kingsport, Tennessee, she consistently placed in a competitive Bred-By Exhibitor Adult class and helped Katywinds Mastiffs secure a Top 5 placement in the prestigious MCOA Breeder’s Cup alongside her littermates, Martina and Robin—a proud moment for our young breeding program.
We’ve been selective in our show entries this year, aiming to stay focused and in tune with the sport while Butters grows and matures. Butters made headlines at the Prince George Kennel Club, where she placed in five out of eight Working Group rings and took home a coveted Best in Show under Judge Sylvia Barkey. This extraordinary win propelled her to the #1 Mastiff in Canada and placed her among the highest point earners in the Working Group that weekend—an incredible accomplishment for such a young bitch.
Butters hails from a legacy of excellence. Her dam, Ava, was a Top 10 Mastiff in the U.S. after limited showing, and her granddam won the 2024 Mastiff Club of America National Specialty. Butters’ sire, Hitch, also brings a powerful pedigree, with consistent top rankings in the U.S. Mastiff scene.
With her recent BIS win, Butters joins a very elite club—becoming only the third female Mastiff in Canadian history to earn this title. And she did it all by just 17 months of age.
Beyond the accolades, Butters is a joy to live with—charismatic, confident, affectionate, and intelligent. Much like her dam, she has a wonderful temperament, but with a little more spunk and attitude that make her unforgettable. She moves with purpose, carries herself with elegance, and holds a presence that simply demands attention.
We’re just getting started, and the future is bright for this incredible young girl. Butters is everything we dreamed of—and more.
